NC State Announces Updated Peer Institutions

Earlier this spring, NC State updated its list of official peer institutions. The 12 institutions identified as NC State official peers now include:

  • Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus
  • Michigan State University
  • Purdue University-Main Campus
  • Rutgers University-New Brunswick
  • Texas A&M University-College Station
  • University of Arizona
  • University of California-Davis
  • University of Georgia
  • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
  • University of Maryland-College Park
  • University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Many higher education institutions keep a list of official peers, with whom they share similarities like mission, governance structure, size, academics and research profile. Comparing key metrics to official peers is one way to gauge institutional performance. UNC System constituent universities have historically updated their official peers list every 5 years. University of Florida and University of Wisconsin-Madison were the two institutions previously identified as NC State official peers that were not not included with the 2025 list.
